Fortinet’s 2024 Global Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report reveals a startling link between cybersecurity breaches and skills shortages in India. A whopping 92% of Indian organizations reported breaches last year, largely blaming the cybersecurity skills gap. Additionally, 80% acknowledge that this gap escalates their cyber risks.
John Maddison, Chief Marketing Officer at Fortinet, stresses the need for a comprehensive strategy to tackle this issue. “Organizations must adopt the right security technology, upgrade skills through training, and build a cyber-aware workforce,” he explained. Fortinet aims to train one million people in cybersecurity by 2026 and is on track, having already educated nearly half a million.
Vishak Raman, VP of Sales for India, SAARC, SEA & ANZ at Fortinet, notes the company’s commitment to bridging this divide. “With 92% of Indian organizations affected by breaches linked to skill shortages, we’re ramping up accessible training programs. Our collaborations with governments, educational institutions, and industry leaders are crafting a resilient talent pool,” he said.
The report paints a grim picture of the impact of skill shortages on Indian companies. The frequency and severity of breaches are increasing, with considerable financial repercussions and rising accountability for corporate leaders.
Certifications are highly valued, with virtually all survey respondents preferring to hire certified professionals, recognizing that certifications enhance security measures.
To combat the ongoing talent shortage, many companies are diversifying their hiring strategies, welcoming candidates from varied educational and professional backgrounds and investing in their certification and training.
Fortinet’s holistic approach includes extensive training, heightened awareness, and robust security solutions through its Security Fabric platform. The Fortinet Training Institute, a cornerstone of their strategy, is committed to democratizing cybersecurity education and career opportunities globally.
