Navi Mumbai: No cyber fraud info in annual crime data
NAVI MUMBAI: The annual crime conference of the Navi Mumbai police does not provide any data on online frauds / cybercrimes.
The data pertaining to the cyber crime fraud cases registered, amount lost in these frauds and recovered amount could not be made available to the media. The data in fact is added into the ‘other’ category but with no mention of numbers.
The data also reveals that the city police unit has a massive vacancy at its lowest level constables (934) followed by 52 sub-inspectors, 17 assistant inspectors, five police inspectors and two assistant commissioners of police.
Activist Rajeev Mishra alleged, “Online money transactions of large amount are easily detected by sleuths of income tax, enforcement directorate, etc. However, the city police must reveal the figures.”
Replying to a query at press confernece, Navi Mumbai CP Milind Bharambe asked deputy commissioners of police (crime) to separately provide cyber crimedata later.
