Palo Alto Networks completes acquisition of CyberArk to secure the AI era, ETCISO
Palo Alto Networks announced it has completed its acquisition of CyberArk, making identity security a core part of its platform strategy. The company said the deal is intended to strengthen its ability to secure enterprise identities across humans, machines, and AI/agentic identities, as identity-based compromise is increasingly treated as a primary attack path in cloud- and automation-heavy environments.
The announcement cites a rapid increase in machine and AI identities and continued reliance on overly permissive privilege models for human users, which attackers exploit through credential abuse and excessive access. Palo Alto Networks said the acquisition expands privileged access controls beyond traditional administrator use cases to a broader set of identities, with the aim of reducing standing privileges and limiting lateral movement during attacks.
CyberArk’s Identity Security offerings will continue to be available as a standalone platform, while integration work is underway to incorporate CyberArk capabilities into Palo Alto Networks’ broader security ecosystem. The company said existing customers should not see disruption during the transition.
Separately, Palo Alto Networks said it intends to pursue a secondary listing on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) while remaining listed on NASDAQ.
