Punjab National Bank (PNB) has launched its first Cybersecurity Hackathon 2024-25, themed “Code Against Malware,” to combat rising cybercrime. The initiative aims to foster collaboration among innovators, researchers, and academicians to tackle malware threats.
The hackathon will be conducted online, welcoming participation from students, researchers, and academicians individually or in teams. It aligns with the Department of Financial Services (DFS) directive for public sector banks to host annual hackathons. The directive, issued on Dec 9, 2024, aims to enhance cybersecurity measures and includes focus areas such as advanced fraud detection, behavior-based user authentication, and security monitoring.
The key focus areas of the hackathon include intelligence-powered malware detection and removal, real-time threat monitoring and mitigation, solutions for ransomware resilience, and next-generation antivirus tools and attack surface management. Participants are tasked with creating a robust cybersecurity framework for the banking sector. These solutions must effectively detect, mitigate, and prevent malware attacks. Winners will receive prizes worth up to Rs 11 lakh and the opportunity to address real-world cybersecurity challenges. Successful solutions may also be deployed in live environments with the bank.PNB’s initiative comes as the banking sector accelerates its digital transformation. The bank continues to implement advanced technologies to protect customer data and sensitive financial information. The hackathon is being held under the guidance of the Ministry of Finance and underscores the importance of collaboration between the financial sector, research institutions, and tech innovators to counter evolving cyber threats.
