Rubrik says it will continue to invest in India, to open R&D unit in Pune, ET CISO

The US-based cybersecurity and cloud data company Rubrik said that the company is actively hiring and would unveil a new research and development (R&D) unit in Pune, as a part of India-focussed strategy.

“We have believed in India from a very early age. By the end of the year, we should have a new R&D facility in Pune,” Ashish Gupta, Vice President – Engineering, Rubrik told ETTelecom, and added that the company is actively recruiting individuals currently.

Palo Alto-headquartered company that employs nearly 1,000 people in Bangalore, has been actively looking to expand to other cities.

“50% of our engineering has now been based out of India. So, large parts of our IT and customer support teams are also based out of India. We will continue to invest in India because we are actually attracting the top talent.”

The company, founded by four IITians – Bipul Sinha, Arvind Jain, Arvind Nithrakashyap and Soham Mazumdar in 2014, employs more than 3,000 individuals worldwide.

Gupta said that the company has already outgrown its current office locations, and hosts nearly 50% of the global R&D workforce.

Rubrik offers cloud-based ransomware protection and data-backup software for more than 7,000 customers across multiple sectors.

The executive further said that the India team contributes to nearly 50% of the overall patent filings.

“Innovation is our core DNA. So, we are where we are only because we have innovated faster and better than the entire industry like both in the data protection industry as well as in the cybersecurity industry,” Gupta added.

The company’s cloud native product line, according to him, has been completely built out of India.

“We have believed in India, where we have partnered with institutions, not just for talent, but we engage with them on how their talent would actually contribute to us.”

The American multinational said that it offers awareness programs to various government agencies and businesses as they are vulnerable to cyberattacks.

“Neither the government nor Indian businesses are going to be spared by cyberattackers. This is something on which we are collaborating both with the government and enterprises.” he added.

In Q2 2024, India witnessed a 46% rise in cyberattacks as compared to 30% global average, according to a recent finding by Check Point Research.

Indian enterprises on an average faced as many as 3,201 attacks every week, making the country as the second-highest hit country in the Asia-Pacific region.

What is Firewall? A Firewall is a network security device that monitors and filters incoming and outgoing network traffic based on an organization's previously established security policies. At its most basic, a firewall is essentially the barrier that sits between a private internal network and the public Internet.

Secure your network at the gateway against threats such as intrusions, Viruses, Spyware, Worms, Trojans, Adware, Keyloggers, Malicious Mobile Code (MMC), and other dangerous applications for total protection in a convenient, affordable subscription-based service. Modern threats like web-based malware attacks, targeted attacks, application-layer attacks, and more have had a significantly negative effect on the threat landscape. In fact, more than 80% of all new malware and intrusion attempts are exploiting weaknesses in applications, as opposed to weaknesses in networking components and services. Stateful firewalls with simple packet filtering capabilities were efficient blocking unwanted applications as most applications met the port-protocol expectations. Administrators could promptly prevent an unsafe application from being accessed by users by blocking the associated ports and protocols.
