All universities in Maharashtra will have to develop and implement short-term courses on cybersecurity, Governor CP Radhakrishnan said on Sunday, adding that these courses will help varsities create ‘a new generation of cyber warriors’.

Radhakrishnan was speaking at the ‘Cyber Education for Cyber Security Awards’ programme in the city. A statement issued by the District Information Officer (DIO) stated that others in attendance at the function included Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University vice chancellor Prakash Mahanwar, state deputy inspector general (cyber) Sanjay Shintre, Quick Heal Foundation chairperson Anupama Katkar, as well as principals, professors, and students hailing from various colleges.

The Governor paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary, stating that his teachings inspired millions, especially the youth, to lead with courage, wisdom, and purpose.

Speaking to the gathering, Radhakrishnan further stated that cybersecurity has emerged as a major concern globally, including in India, as we increasingly rely on digital technology for transactions.

“Even small, uneducated vendors now accept digital payments, a testament to the success of technology envisioned by Prime Minister Modi. As technology advances, so do malicious activities. However, we must work to break their chain and apprehend them,” said Radhakrishnan.

He emphasized the need to train police in govt’s cyber branch to use computer systems effectively against cybercrime.

A statement issued after the event highlighted that since cybercriminals often operate from other countries, a multifaceted approach is needed to tackle these challenges, including strengthening existing policies, investing more in cybersecurity, and spreading awareness, particularly educating youth and senior citizens about safe online practices.

At the event, cyber education awards were also organised by Quick Heal Foundation. They were distributed to principals, teachers and students who excelled in the ‘Cyber Education for Cyber Security’ initiative.

What is Firewall? A Firewall is a network security device that monitors and filters incoming and outgoing network traffic based on an organization's previously established security policies. At its most basic, a firewall is essentially the barrier that sits between a private internal network and the public Internet.

Secure your network at the gateway against threats such as intrusions, Viruses, Spyware, Worms, Trojans, Adware, Keyloggers, Malicious Mobile Code (MMC), and other dangerous applications for total protection in a convenient, affordable subscription-based service. Modern threats like web-based malware attacks, targeted attacks, application-layer attacks, and more have had a significantly negative effect on the threat landscape. In fact, more than 80% of all new malware and intrusion attempts are exploiting weaknesses in applications, as opposed to weaknesses in networking components and services. Stateful firewalls with simple packet filtering capabilities were efficient blocking unwanted applications as most applications met the port-protocol expectations. Administrators could promptly prevent an unsafe application from being accessed by users by blocking the associated ports and protocols.
