Akamai brings security inside AI factories with NVIDIA, ETCISO


Akamai and NVIDIA have expanded their collaboration to integrate Zero Trust security capabilities into AI infrastructure through the combination of Akamai Guardicore Segmentation with the NVIDIA Vera BlueField-4 STX storage architecture, powered by the NVIDIA DOCA software platform.

The integration is designed to help AI infrastructure operators enforce workload-aware segmentation, monitor AI workload behavior and contain security threats at the infrastructure layer without impacting GPU, CPU or storage performance.

The combined solution uses Akamai Guardicore Segmentation to map communication between workloads, applications and data across hybrid environments, including data centers, cloud platforms, Kubernetes clusters and edge systems. Security policies are based on workload identity, application context and runtime behavior rather than static network addresses.

NVIDIA Vera BlueField-4 STX, programmable through the NVIDIA DOCA software platform, enforces these security policies directly within the infrastructure data path. This enables functions such as workload segmentation, telemetry, anomaly detection and isolation of compromised systems to operate independently of host resources.

The solution follows four operational stages:

  • Visibility: Continuous mapping of communication across AI training pipelines, inference services, data ingestion systems and orchestration platforms.
  • Policy: Security policies based on workload identity, application context and runtime behavior, restricting communication to approved services.
  • Enforcement: Policy enforcement within the BlueField-4 infrastructure at line speed using NVIDIA DOCA.
  • Containment: Isolation of compromised workloads to limit the spread of threats while allowing the remaining AI environment to continue operating.

The companies said the integration is expected to become available in the second half of 2026 for implementing workload-aware segmentation in AI infrastructure. Support for NVIDIA Vera BlueField-4 STX on storage and infrastructure partner platforms is expected in the first half of 2027.
